The Other Part Of The Drug Plan

Now that profits are locked up on the home front, it's time to deal with the pesky competition. LATimes (02.11.06):
"The U.S. government apparently is stepping up seizures of cheap drugs ordered by Americans — mainly seniors — from abroad, Canadian pharmacies say. The pharmacies, which sell drugs by mail and over the Internet, say their shipments are being intercepted by U.S. Customs officials around the country where foreign mail is handled." More Medicines From Abroad Seized
"'It's huge — we've had over 800 seizures in January,' up from 15 in a typical month, said Barney Britton, president of Calgary-based MinitDrugs." "Other pharmacies reported four- to five-fold increases. An informal survey of 30 Canadian pharmacies that cater to American customers, conducted by a senior-citizen advocacy website, showed that the rise began in November, doubled in December and doubled again in January." You just know where this is going. The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (04.11.05):
"As the nation tightens its borders against possible future terrorist attacks, it risks undermining security and safety by opening them to non-FDA approved prescription drugs from other countries, according to a comprehensive report released today in New York City by Giuliani Partners, headed by former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. In the report, 'Examination and Assessment of Prescription Drug Importation from Foreign Sources to the United States,' Giuliani says that the risks of importing drugs from outside the U.S. far outweigh any alleged benefits." Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers Association (PhRMA)
"According to Giuliani, opening U.S. borders to prescription drugs could provide an unfortunate opportunity for terrorists." PhRMA commissioned Rudy's report by the way. Funny how that works, eh? Oh, and by the way, Rudy wants to be your President.
