Huh?
Always ready to take credit for a success they had nothing to do with. Too bad they won't accept responsibility for all the mistakes they've made, eh? NYTimes (08.11.06):
"Republicans seized on the arrests of terrorism suspects in Britain yesterday to bolster a White House campaign to turn national security issues to their advantage this fall, arguing that the nation needs tough Republican policies to protect Americans from threats from abroad. Arrests Bolster G.O.P. as Election NearsOne small problem with this. The operation was carried out in Great Britain by British security with a good amount of help from Pakistan. The current Administration had little, if anything, to do with it. What they have been doing, on the other hand, is chasing down leads the Brits gave us. Desperate times, desperate measures. The latest crock o' shit Cheney and the boys are trying to foist off on usis that Joe Lieberman’s defeat in a Democratic primary in Connecticut means that the Democratic Party as a whole is "not prepared to lead the nation in such dangerous times." To which we are constrained to respond, "What the fuck are you talking about, Dick?" James Webb, a former Reagan administration official running as a Democratic candidate for Senate in Virginia", put it a bit more diplomatically: "'The war in Iraq had nothing to do with the war against international terrorism, or very little to do with the war on terrorism. It has distracted our attention, it has pulled our forces in, and we are now in a situation where we have 135,000 on the ground, which affects our ability to do a lot of things that we would be able to do otherwise.'" And by the way? This whole thing began to unravel after "British authorities received a call from a worried member of the Muslim community, reporting general suspicions about an acquaintance." No NSA. No warrantless eavesdropping. No snooping in libraries. Imagine that.
