Another True Believer

In just what, we're not really sure. Washington Post (11.21.07):
"President Bush yesterday offered his strongest support of embattled Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, saying the general 'hasn't crossed the line' and 'truly is somebody who believes in democracy.'

Bush spoke nearly three weeks after Musharraf declared emergency rule, sacked members of the Supreme Court and began a roundup of journalists, lawyers and human rights activists."

Bush More Emphatic In Backing Musharraf

On the other hand, that democracy stuff gets a lot less complicated if you can stack the deck. Reuters (11.21.07):
"Although Pakistan is racked with militancy, one of Musharraf's main aims in declaring the emergency was to purge the Supreme Court of judges who appeared set to annul his re-election by parliament last month.

The court, now packed with pro-government judges, is expected to strike down the last of six petitions on Thursday."
