Nice misleading article. It failed to mention Republicans were ready to pass unemployment extensions. Republicans wanted the bill to be paid for, by tapping unused stimulus dollars. Democrats seeing their pet projects under the stimulus in danger of losing funding, decided not to compromise.
Republicans are trying to stop our huge deficit spending. They are not heartless, or clueless. They would've gladly passed the extension if money from the Stimulus (remember, that massive cluster-fuck bill that was supposed to keep unemployment below 10%) had been used to fund it.
