Twinkly Little Starbursts!!

"Since this can't be mocked enough...":
"I confess to being immune to Palin's contrived charms. Everything about her strikes me as phony--she possesses about as much depth as aluminum siding."

Winky Dinks

Face it folks; the woman is a moron.

Sister Sarah Goes Nuclear

Reuters (04.08.10), via BalloonJuice:
"President Barack Obama on Thursday made clear he was not going to take advice from Republican Sarah Palin when it comes to decisions about the U.S. nuclear arsenal.

Palin, the former vice presidential candidate, has not been shy about criticizing Obama's policies and this week weighed in on his revamped nuclear strategy, saying it was like a child in a playground who says 'punch me in the face, I'm not going to retaliate.'"

President Obama questions Sarah Palin's nuclear acumen

"'I really have no response to that. The last I checked, Sarah Palin is not much of an expert on nuclear issues,' Obama said in an interview with ABC News."

"Pressed further on Republican criticism that his strategy restricts the use of nuclear weapons too much, Obama added: 'What I would say to them is, is that if the secretary of defense and the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff are comfortable with it, I'm probably going to take my advice from them and not from Sarah Palin.'"

Mostly 'cause she's almost too stupid to know how to breath.

Pathetic Or Funny?

You make the call. AP (12.05.07):
"President Bush, trying to keep pressure on Iran, called on Tehran Wednesday to 'come clean' about the scope of its nuclear activities or else face diplomatic isolation.

Two days after a new intelligence report said that Iran had halted its nuclear weapons program four years ago, Bush demanded that Tehran detail its previous program to develop nuclear weapons 'which the Iranian regime has yet to acknowledge.'"

Uhhh, yeah. Bet they get right on it.

We Have An Idea

At least we think we do. LATimes (11.06.07), via The Washington Monthly:
"A senior Bush administration official, speaking on White House rules of anonymity, said the administration had looked at concrete steps over the last week.

'We had some ideas. The Turks have had some ideas. The Iraqis have had some ideas. The Kurds have had some ideas,' the official said. "

Oh Domino

"Oh oh domino. Roll me over romeo." Washington Post (10.17.07):
"Libya [ed. - until 18 months ago, a US government-designated "State Sponsor of Terrorism"] and Vietnam [ed. - yeah, sorry about that war and all] were elected overwhelmingly on Tuesday to serve two-year terms on the U.N. Security Council, marking the diplomatic revival of two of the United States' former Cold War enemies, and raising the possibility of Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi one day presiding over the world's premier security body."

Our Secretary Of State

Condi's a little behind the times. NYTimes (04.26.07), via DangerRoom:
"Brusquely dismissing protests by Russian officials, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said here on Thursday that a missile-defense system the United States plans to install in Poland and the Czech Republic would pose no danger to the security of Russia.

'The idea that somehow 10 interceptors and a few radars in Eastern Europe are going to threaten the Soviet strategic deterrent is purely ludicrous, and everybody knows it,' Ms. Rice said before a meeting of NATO foreign ministers expected to focus on the missile-defense dispute."

Missile-Defense Plan No Threat to Russia, Rice Says

Danger Room points out that it's now 2007, and there is no Soviet Union anymore.

In fact, there hasn't been a Soviet Union since 1991.

No wonder our foreign policy is so flummoxed.

Oh My

If you thought going to Syria drove George and Dick nuts, what might this do? AP (04.11.07):
"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Tom Lantos, D-San Mateo, just back from a trip to Syria that brought sharp criticism from Republicans and the Bush administration, suggested Tuesday that the two may be interested in taking another diplomatic trip -- to open a dialogue with Iran.

The Democratic speaker from San Francisco and Lantos, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, were asked at a news conference in San Francisco on Tuesday whether on the heels of their recent trip to the Middle East they would be interested in extending their diplomacy in the troubled region with a visit to Iran."

Foreign Policy

Hugo gets Nick's goat. McClatchy (03.23.07):
"In a rare public rebuke, a top U.S. official has complained about Buenos Aires' decision to let Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez use a stadium to attack President Bush as the U.S. president visited nearby Uruguay.

Speaking at the Council of the Americas, a Washington group that promotes trade and dialog with Latin America, ["the State Department's under secretary for political affairs", Nicholas] Burns noted the administration's achievements in the region and scolded Buenos Aires in his opening remarks while looking at Argentine Ambassador Jose Octavio Bordon, who was seated in the front row."

State Department official blasts Argentina over Chavez speech

During the stadium speech, old Hugo said that George "'has the smell of a political corpse, who will soon disappear into cosmic dust.'"

He also said that "'(o)utside the United States, Bush’s popularity rating is probably negative'" The crowd of 40,000 reportedly laughed and cheered at that one.

Obviously you can't expect a loyal Bushie to stand for that kind of mocking.

Anyway, after Nick's little tantrum, Jose had a chance to respond. "He pointed out that the Venezuelan traveled to Buenos Aires to sign economic agreements and then attended the stadium rally, which was organized by a private group. Chavez 'exercised the freedom that we live in Argentina,' Bordon said."

Which in diplomatic-speak is the equivalent of "Nick. Fuck off."
