Dweeb

What a homer. Reuters (04.20.05), via JoshMarshall:
"U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow said on Wednesday the Bush administration was making progress in ratcheting down U.S. budget deficits, but linked it to action on an overhaul of the Social Security system. He said there was 'a terrific, vibrant national dialogue going on,' though so far polls show lukewarm support for the proposal to establish private accounts." Snow says Social Security key to lowering deficits
A terrific, vibrant national dialogue? Note how Reuters puts it: "Snow was in New York trying to drum up support for the administration's call for changes in Social Security...." Mr. Snow has been on the circuit off and on since mid-February. To say he's enjoyed lukewarm support would putting it rather charitably. To listen to Mr. Snow, however, you'd think he'd been knocking 'em dead. See, "Snow Is Supposing Support's Really Growing, But Snow Is Supposing Erroneously". Mr. Marshall opined that "(t)he logic of that statement points to only one conclusion: the deficits the administration has run up with upper-income tax cuts will be reduced by benefit cuts in Social Security." "It's not about strengthening Social Security; it's about cleaning up the mess created by the president's tax cuts."
